It’s a mad winter. So mild and rainy that the river at the bottom of our lane has flooded twice and primroses out. I keep walking round and reminding everything that it is only January, especially the peach tree..
Five years ago we had the same January and then at the beginning of February it was -22c at night and -10c during the day for two weeks. Another winter it started to snow at the end of January until we had almost a meter which eventually went in mid-March.
I just hope and pray it doesn’t happen again, especially the freezing temperatures. It has taken some of the plants almost this long to recover, especially things like the peonies.
Those are winter annuals for us. They get planted in autumn, when the warm season annuals finish, and then bloom all winter and into spring.

For us they are spring flowers, flowering in March and April.. usually!
