That is a frustrating flower for those of us in mild climates. I know that people can grow them as far south as the upper elevations of the Santa Monica Mountains, but they are unpredictable. They never did well for me, but my neighbors had no problems with them. They do not get much chill here.

And they certainly get that chill here.. But indeed they do need it. I’m lucky with an acid soil, get to grow all my favourites!
