The first daylilies

When I said I loved lupins, oriental poppies and peonies I forgot to mention daylilies.  The garden is full of them and, if I had to choose, I would say they are my favourites.

Below are the first ones.  Stella d’oro flowers from June to September in my garden.  The orange one is one that grows almost wild here and I have no idea of its name!

Almond or peach

At the garden party on Sunday there was a whole discussion as to whether this was an almond tree or a peach tree!

Well, it was bought as an almond tree and when at last it flowered I thought they were almonds… but alas no they are peaches!  I can only assume it was grafted on to peach stock, the almond bit died and the original peach stock grew on.  This year it is covered in peaches.6DC65EF6-14DB-44F7-9FAB-922FF9BCBE68

Garden Party

Yesterday was Garden Party time.  Hardly slept because we have had rain every afternoon from, what it feels like, records began but in reality is probably about three weeks..

But I needn’t have worried, the weather was perfect, the garden looked great and everyone had a good time.  We sold plants and have a good sum to donate to our charity.

June

June is with us but where did May go.  The weather continues with a storm-a-day.  The garden is loving the mix of rain and sun.  The veggie garden has never looked so healthy and the amount of colour is amazing with one thing finishing and another beginning.

Lupins

i love lupins but at one time I couldn’t get them to self-seed.  So they would flower one year and then they were gone.  But that has all changed and now they self-seed quite happily.  This year pink and white seem to be the given colours.

The peonies are all in bud but not out yet as you can see in the right hand picture.

Weird weather

69ED60B7-A4E9-42E6-83B3-BDEADFB8A36BWe seem to be getting a thunderstorm a day right now.  Early afternoon.  Weird, usually we get them in the evening.  Not as if it is that hot either, around 21c..

Still  glad of the rain just as long as we don’t get hail!  Been there, done that and it totally devastated the entire garden.

The rhododendrons are slowly going over, one by one.  The azaleas are still lovely.  But as one thing goes over another begins, see above.
