Started snowing two days ago and looks set to stay for a while.  It is still snowing.

February is often the month when we get winter just as  you are expecting it to be more like spring!

And this February is no exception.  We have had snow, freezing temperatures and the forecast for the next ten days is more of the same!  Not as bad as some February’s but still down to -8c at night.

i have two agapanthus which were in the greenhouse but I have now moved them to the cellar.  Not ideal as although it stays at around 14c it is dark as it has no windows.  Still hopefully only for a short period.

At least there are some bright moments to lighten up all the grey.  January has been the wettest month in France since records began.  The rivers are in flood and the ground is soaked.  We needed rain, however, as 2017 was extremely dry..

It’s a mad winter.  So mild and rainy that the river at the bottom of our lane has flooded twice and primroses out.  I keep walking round and reminding everything that it is only January, especially the peach tree..

Five years ago we had the same January and then at the beginning of February it was -22c at night and -10c during the day for two weeks.  Another winter it started to snow at the end of January until we had almost a meter which eventually went in mid-March.

I just hope and pray it doesn’t happen again, especially the freezing temperatures.  It has taken some of the plants almost this long to recover, especially things like the peonies.

Ginger and Soda.  We found them, as kittens, in the garden almost 10 years ago.  Since that time they have taken over our lives!  They love to come for a walk round with us plus lie in the sun (no not now) and watch me work.
